Question : LOOK ACT EAST POLICY



(a) the details of projects commissioned/ sanctioned under the Look/ Act East Policy to connect India with ASEAN countries, including the present status of such projects;

(b) whether the Government has extended the deadline for its connectivity projects in Myanmar from 2016 to 2019;

(c) if so, the details thereof and the reasons for such delay; and

(d) the steps taken by the Government to ensure time-bound completion of the projects under the said policy?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS [GEN. (DR) V. K. SINGH (RETD)]

(a) to (d) A number of connectivity projects are being undertaken by Government of India, in cooperation with the Government of Myanmar, to enhance connectivity with Myanmar and beyond to other ASEAN countries. These include the Kaladan Multi-modal Transit Transport Project, the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway Project, Rhi-Tiddim Road Project etc.

These projects are at different stages of implementation. Government is ensuring meticulous planning, close monitoring and coordination with Government of Myanmar so as to facilitate timely completion of these projects.
