(a) to (d) A statement is laid on the table of the House.
STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (d) OF THE LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION No. 377 FOR 18/07/2019 ASKED BY SH. GANESH SINGH REGARDING SELECTION PROCESS OF TALENTED PLAYERS.
(a) & (b) Yes Sir, in accord with such objectives, under the component ‘Talent Search and Development’ of Khelo India Scheme of Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (MYAS), selection of talented sports persons is carried out as per competitive performance and assessments made through scientifically designed battery of tests. To make the selection process transparent, two Committees in SAI namely, Talent Screening Committee (TSC) and Talent Identification and Development Committee (TIDC) which comprises of eminent sportspersons and eminent Coaches have been put in place. 1178 sporting talents in Khelo India School Games, 2018 and 2437 sporting talents in Khelo India Youth Games, 2019 have been selected under Khelo India scheme for further training to excel in various National/ International competitions.
Further, MYAS through Sports Authority of India (SAI) launched the National Talent Search Portal (NTSP) in 2017. It has been so designed that any sports person across the country can submit online application for admission under various SAI sports promotional schemes.The received applications are scrutinised by the NTSP cell in SAI and eligible applicants are sent to the SAI Training Centres (STC) preferred by the applicants.
(c) The details of the Athletes selected from Madhya Pradesh under the component ‘Talent Search and Development’ of ‘Khelo India Scheme’ are provided at Annexure-I.
(d) ‘Sports’ being a State subject promotion of sports including creation of sports infrastructure is primarily the responsibility of State/ Union Territory Governments. Central Government supplements the efforts of State/ UT Government by creation/ up-gradation of sports infrastructure under Khelo India scheme and providing training facilitates under various SAI sports promotional schemes. The details of the infrastructure created and modernised by SAI in the country in the last three years and that relating to release of funds to States / UTs for development of sports under Khelo India Scheme are at Annexure- II and III respectively. The details pertaining to the state of Madhya Pradesh are reflected in these two annexures.
