Question : Powerloom Textile Mills

(a) the number of powerloom textile mills set up in the country during the last five years and current year including the number of those closed down during the said period, State-wise particularly in Uttar Pradesh;

(b) the number of people rendered jobless during the aforesaid period due to their closure along with the details of schemes formulated for the development and renovation of powerloom sector;

(c) the details of funds allocated/utilised during the last three years and the current year, State-wise and scheme-wise including Uttar Pradesh;

(d) the share of handloom and powerloom sector in total textile production in the country during the aforesaid period?

(a): Powerloom Units have been setup under Powerloom Sector Schemes. According to the baseline survey of Powerloom Industry there are 3, 85, 896 powerloom units in the country and 59,038 powerloom units in the State of Uttar Pradesh. However, detailed data base of Powerloom Textile Mills is not maintained centrally.
(b): There is no report of number of people rendered jobless due to closure of powerloom units. The Government is implementing a comprehensive scheme namely PowerTex Scheme for the period 1.04.2017 to 31.03.2020 with an outlay of Rs. 487.07 crores, on Pan-India basis for holistic development of Powerloom sector & Knitting Sector.
(c): Government of India, Ministry of Textiles is not allocating Scheme wise funds to States. The schemes are implemented on pan India basis and funds are released directly to the eligible units who have applied under the various schemes. State-wise and Scheme- wise details of funds utilized during the last three years and current year including Uttar Pradesh is enclosed at Annexure-I.
(d): The details of estimated contribution of handloom and powerloom sector in the production of total textile production in the country 2016-17 to 2019-20 (upto December) is enclosed at Annexure-II.
