Question : INDO BANGLADESH NEGOTIATION



(a) whether the Union Government have negotiated with Bangladesh proposals of railways, road and waterways communication with the North East Land Locked areas of the country through Bangladesh corridor; and

(b) if so, the progress thereof?

(a) &(b) India has limited transit facility through Bangladesh under the provisions of the Protocol on Inland Water Transit and Trade, which has been in operation since 1972. The Government of India has made repeated proposals to the Government of Bangladesh for transit to the north-eastern states by road and rail. Bangladesh has not agreed to these proposals.
