Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH & FAMILY WELFARE ( SMT. PANABAKA LAKSHMI)

(a): The licensing of food is done by the State Governments

The Central Committee for Food Standards (CCFS), which is a statutory body under PFA Act, 1954, in its meeting in February, 1995, recommended that `Gingseng` may be termed as food for Special Dietary use or in the preparation of therapeutic foods without any medical claims. The recommendation is not related to specific product `Revital`. `Gingseng` is a herbal root extract and is one of the ingredients of `Revital`.

(b) & (c) : The Central Government has not filed case against Ranbaxy in this regard.
