Question : GIRLS EDUCATION



(a) whether girls` education continues to be interrupted after primary school with the percentage of enrolment declining at the higher secondary school stage;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government has conducted any survey regarding enrolment of girl students during the recent past and if so, the outcome thereof;

(d) whether the total number of schools has increased in the country during the 11th Five Year Plan and if so, the details thereof, State-wise; and

(e) whether the number of teachers have also increased in proportion to the increase in the number of schools and if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (c) The Girls Enrolment Ratio at the higher secondary level has been increasing over the years from 26.09% in 2006-07 as per Statistics of School Education 2006-07 to 49.81% in 2013-14 as per UDISE 2013-14 . The Ministry collects Unified District Information on School Education (UDISE) which includes information on enrolment of girl students. The girls dropout rate is continuously declining and as per UDISE 2013-14 the annual average dropout rate of girls is presently reduced to 4.66% at primary level, 4.01% at upper primary level and 14.54 % at secondary level.

(d) to (e) Yes Madam. As per Statistics of School Education, the total number schools increased from 1260004 in 2006-07 to 1399408 in 2010-11. State wise details are placed at Annexure 1. Over the years the number of teachers in the schools has been increasing as a result the Pupil Teacher Ratio has improved to 26 in 2013-14.
