Question : Jal Marg Vikas Project

(a) whether the Government is implementing the Jal Marg Vikas Project (JMVP) in the country;
(b) if so, the details including the salient features thereof along with the funds earmarked for the purpose;
(c) the details of National Waterways included under JMVP; and
(d) the time frame set for completion of the said project?

Answer given by the minister

(a)to(c):Yes, Madam. The Government is implementing the Jal Marg Vikas Project (JMVP) for capacity augmentation of navigation on National Waterway-1 (NW-1) on the Haldia-Varanasi stretch of Ganga-Bhagirathi-Hooghly River System with technical and financial assistance of the World Bank. The salient features of the project are construction on multimodal/intermodal terminals, Ro-Ro terminals, one new navigational lock at Farakka, integrated vessel repair and maintenance facilities, automated information techniques of Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) and River Information System (RIS), day and night navigation aids, bunkering facilities, river training, river conservancy works etc. The Government has approved the implementation of JMVP at an estimated cost of Rs.5,369.18crore.
(d) JMVP is scheduled to be completed by 2022-23.
