(a) whether a large number of drugs and medicines are available in the market for the treatment of Heart and Kidney ailments;
(b) if so, whether the recent researches and studies show that Metaformine medicine if given to patients suffering from heart and kidney problems could be fatal;
(c) if so, the facts thereof; and
(d) the action taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) Yes Sir.
(b) to (d): Metformine is reported to be harmful in patients suffering from cardio-vascular and renal (kidney) diseases. In these patients this drug is contraindicated as it may cause serious complications. However in patients with heart disease and normal heart function it is safe. The drug is available only on the prescription of a registered medical practitioner.
