Question : ESI Hospitals

(a)the number of Employees State Insurance (ESI) hospitals/dispensaries functioning in the country, as on date, State/UT-wise particularly in Maharashtra;
(b)whether the Government proposes to upgrade the status of some ESI hospitals/dispensaries and if so, the details thereof, State/UT-wise along with the funds sanctioned for the said purpose;
(c)the number of the said hospitals functioning in rented locations, State/UT-wise;
(d)the details of funds spent on such hospitals during each of the last three years and the current year State/UT-wise; and
(e)the number of workers benefited through the said hospitals and the details of facilities provided to them?

(a): Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has 151 ESI hospitals in the country at present. Details of hospitals/dispensaries State/UT-wise including Maharashtra are at Annex.

(b): The ESI Corporation during its 166th meeting has inter-alia taken the following decisions to upgrade/improve health facilities:

i) To upgrade 1/3rd of dispensaries in the first phase to six bedded hospital with:-
a) 24x7 facilities
b) Pathological facilities.
c) X-ray facilities.
ii) Provision of Cancer detection/treatment facilities.
iii) Provision of Cardiology treatment facilities.
iv) Provision of Dialysis facilities in ESIC Model hospitals.
v) Provision of Tele-medicine facilities.

Many of the above facilities have been planned under Public Private Partnership (PPP). Since, the action on these are at various stages of planning and tendering, funds have not yet been sanctioned. These will be within the existing budget of ESIC.

(c): None of the ESI hospital is functioning in rented location.

(d) & (e): Question do not arise in view of reply to part (c) of the question above.
