(a) to (d): At present, no proposal to incentivise manufacturers to set up facilities for making lithium ion batteries to lower the cost of electric vehicles in the country is under consideration of the Department of Heavy Industry.
However, the Department of Heavy Industry received a communication from Managing Director, Maruti Suzuki India Limited regarding incentives for establishing an integrated manufacturing facility for the battery pack in India. After examination of the proposal in consultation with Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MEITY), Maruti Suzuki India Limited was informed that their product, if used in Automotive Electronics, may be considered for incentive under MEITY’s Modified Special Incentive Package Scheme (M-SIPS). They have further been informed that the final view in this regard will be taken by the Appraisal Committee of M-SIPS during detailed appraisal after a proposal is made by Maruti Suzuki India Limited to MEITY.
