Question : SELLING OF MEDICINES OF ARMY HOSPITALS IN MARKETS



(a) whether some cases of selling the medicines from Army Hospitals in the markets have come to the notice of the Government;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the action taken by the Government in this regard; and

(d) the steps taken to check such incidents in future?

(a) to (c): Recently, one retired Army personnel was apprehended by Delhi Police with some medicines meant for Armed Forces Hospitals, in his possession. Further inquiry by the police revealed the involvement of a serving soldier of Army Hospital (Research & Referral) Delhi Cantonment. A First Information Report has been lodged by Delhi Police on 13th March 2007 in the matter. Army authorities have also ordered a Court of Inquiry to investigate the matter.

(d) Though security measures are already in place to avoid such instances, which include surprise checks at dispensaries and medical stores, monitoring of inventories and checks by security personnel, the same have been intensified further.
