Question : Motor Accident Claims

(a) whether it is a fact that there has been a huge increase in the number of fake/false motor accident claims in the country;
(b) if so, the details thereof along the reasons therefor, State/UT-wise;
(c) whether the Government proposes to set up a new portal and generate unique number to curb filing of fake or multiple motor accident claims in the country;
(d) if so, the details thereof and the extent to which the new portal is likely to check such fake/false claims;
(e) the time by which it is likely to be introduced;
(f) the other measures being taken by the Government to curb such fake/false claims in the country?

(a) to (b) No such data is maintained.

(c) to (f) The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued notification GSR 164 (E) dated 25th February, 2022 to mandate the procedure for detailed investigation of road accidents, the Detailed Accident Report (DAR) and its reporting, along with timelines for different stakeholders, including electronic submission of the details on eDAR portal for quick settlements of claims by the Motor Accident Claim Tribunal (MACT) as well as to check fake/false motor accident claims.
