Question : NATIONAL HIGHWAYS - 7



(a) whether the Government have finalised the decision on building Bye-pass roads on the National Highways (NH-7) in the country;

(b) if so, the details of locations, exact, stretch of roads for which Bye-pass roads will be laid; and (

(c) the details of the status of Bye-pass roads to be constructed on the NH-7 between Thoppur and Hosur in Dharmauri district, Tamil Nadu?

(a) National Highway No. 7 connects Varanasi to Kanyakumari and passes through the cities of Jabalpur, Nagpur, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Madurai. The decision regarding building bypasses are taken based on the feasibility studies for the sections proposed for the improvement/ upgradation.

(b) Following bypasses have been constructed/ taken up for implementation on NH-7.


(i) Katni Bypass (on Jabalpur - Rewa Section)
(ii) Jabalpur Bypass (on Rewa - Jabalpur-Seoni Section)
(iii) Devanahalli Bypass (on Hyderabad - Bangalore Section)
(iv) Yehalanka Bypass (on Hyderabad - Bangalore Section)
(v) Salem Bypass (on Bangalore - Madurai Section)
(vi) Namakkal Bypass (on Bangalore - Madurai Section)
(vii) Karur Bypass (on Bangalore - Madurai Section)



(c) Feasibility studies for 4-laning of the section of NH-7 between Thoppur and Hosur under North-South Corridor is yet to be taken up. Details of bypass roads on this section will be finalised, based on the feasibility studies. The whole corridor is targeted for substantial completion by December, 2007.
