Question : CAUVERY WATER DISPUTE



(a) whether a meeting of the Cauvery River Authority under the Chairmanship of Prime Minister was held, recently;

(b) if so, the decisions arrived at in the meeting; and

(c) the extent to which water dispute among Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry has been resolved?

(a) to (c) Cauvery River Authority has been constituted on 11.8.1998 to give effect to the implementation of the Interim Order of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal dated 25.6.1991 and , all its subsequent related orders. The second meeting of the Cauvery River Authority was held on 14.7.2000 under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister. In the meeting, the Authority confirmed the minutes of the first meeting and approved the Rules and Regulations for Conduct of the Business of the Cauvery River Authority. It was also agreed that Government of Karnatka would endeavour to make good the deficit in inflow into Mettur reservoir for the month of June, 2000 within next 30 days, and, government of Tamil Nadu would make available the required quantities of water to Pondicherry.
