Question : PROCUREMENT OF SUB-STANDARD FOODGRAINS



(a) whether the Food Corporation of India had procured sub-standard foodgrains during the last season particularly from Punjab;

(b) if so, the reasons therefor;

(c) the total quantity of such foodgrains procured during the said period;

(d) whether inferior quality of foodgrain is supplied through Public Distribution System;

(e) if so, the reasons therefor; and

(f) if not, the manner by which such foodgrains is likely to be disposed of?

(a) No Sir, No relaxed specification / substandard foodgrains has been procured by the Food Corporation of India (FCI) during the last season in Punjab.

(b) & (c) : Does not arise.

(d) No Sir, Foodgrains (Wheat rice) free from insect infestation and conforming to Prevention of Food Adulteration (PFA) Act standards are supplied by FCI to the State Governments for Public Distribution System (PDS).

(e) & (f ) : Does not arise.
