Work on eight indigenous PHWRs with a total capacity of 5600 MWe and ten Light Water Reactors with a total capacity of 10,000 MWe based on imports has been proposed in the XI Plan. Government has accorded ‘in principle’ approval for sites for setting up 2 x 700 MWe each at Kakrapar in Gujarat and Rawatbhata in Rajashtan and 2 x 1000 MWe LWRs each at Kudankulam in Tamil Nadu and Jaitapur in Maharashtra.
