Question : INFILTRATION AT LOC



(a) whether infiltration along the Line of Control (LoC) has increased;

(b) if so, the details of such incidents reported during each of the last three years and the current year;

(c) whether the Government has taken any action to improve the vigil along the LoC and prevent the said activities;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) & (b): Though the number of infiltration attempts have come down from 535 in 2007 to 342 in 2008,it showed an increase in 2009 and 2010 with reference to the year 2008. A marginal change can be observed in 2010 compared to the previous year. The number of infiltration attempts during the last three years along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) in J&K are given below:-

(c) & (d): The Government in tandem with the State Government have adopted a multipronged approach to contain cross border infiltration in Jammu & Kashmir, which includes, inter-alial strengthening of border management and multi tiered and multi-model deployment along international border/line of control and infiltration routes, construction of border fencing improved technology, weapons and equipment for security forces, improved intelligence and operational coordination synergizing intelligence flow to check infiltration and pro-active action against the terrorists within the States. The counter infiltration efforts are reviewed periodically at various levels in the State Government and in the Central Government.
