Question : Asbestos Mining

(a) the details of the asbestos mining being carried out in the country during each of the last three years, State-wise;

(b) whether the Government proposes to stop the asbestos mining operations in the country in view of its adverse effect on public health; and

(c) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a): During last three years, there was no asbestos mining in the country.

(b): Grant of fresh mining leases and renewal of existing mining leases for Asbestos has been banned by the Ministry of Mines in the country on health grounds.

(c): Does not arise in view of the answer to (b) above.
