Question : REMIX SONGS



(a) whether the Government is aware that every time one switches on the T.V. set, one is bombarded with remixes, fast beats and vulgar scenes in old songs are in vogue;

(b) if so, the factors responsible for such remixes;

(c) whether the Government proposes to protect old songs from remixes;

(d) if so, the steps taken by the Government in this regard; and

(e) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (e) The nodal Ministry for the Copyright Act 1957, is the Ministry for Human Resource Development (Copyright Division, in the Department of Education.) According to information received from that Department, the problem of remix in songs has been brought to their notice in the context of financial loss etc. to the music industry due to inadequate payment of royalty by those engaged in remixes.

A Core Group has been set up in the Department of Education to consider amendments to the Copyright Act 1957 and different groups of the music industry have made their submissions with regard to retention/ deletion/ modification of section 52(1) (j) which covers remixes.
