Question : Growth of FPIs

(a) whether the growth of Food Processing Industries (FPIs) in the country is satisfactory and if so, the details thereof;

(b) the role of the Government in the growth of FPIs;

(c) the details of the items that make major contribution to the FPIs; and

(d) the status of the FPI growth in the State of Andhra Pradesh?

(a): The Gross Value Addition (GVA) in food processing sector has increased from Rs. 1.34 lakh crore in 2014-15 to Rs. 2.24 lakh crore in 2019-20 at a Compounded Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 10.82 %.

(b): The Ministry of Food Processing Industries contributes to the growth of food processing industries by implementing various schemes like Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY), which is a comprehensive programme for overall growth and development of the food processing sector through creation of modern post-harvest infrastructure and value-addition. The Ministry is also implementing two new schemes as part of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan:

(i) PM Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme (PM FME) with the aim to provide financial, technical and business support for upgradation/ setting up of two lakh micro food processing units on One District One Product (ODOP) approach.
(ii) Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for boosting manufacturing competitiveness and exports and creating global food manufacturing champions.

(c): The following processed food items contributed to value addition in food processing sector during 2019-20 includes (i) manufacture of bakery products, sugar & sugar confectionery, chocolate & cocoa products, prepared meals & dishes, processing & blending of tea & coffee, edible nuts, malted foods, processing of spices etc. (ii) milling of rice, flour, pulses, cereal breakfast foods, readymade mixed powders, (iii) production, processing and preservation of meat, fish, fruit, vegetables, oils and fats, (iv) manufacture of soft drinks and alcoholic beverages and (v) manufacture of dairy products.

(d): As per the Annual Survey of Industries released by Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, the gross value added in Andhra Pradesh has grown from Rs. 7,02,435 lakh in 2014- 15 to Rs. 10,20,784 lakh in 2018-19 at a Compounded Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 9.79 %.
