Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:

(a) whether there has been a reduction in the incidents/cases of female foeticide post enactment of Pre-Conception and PreNatal Diagnostic Techniques (PC&PNDT) Act;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the details of relevant clauses under the PC&PNDT Act?

(a) & (b): State/UT-wise, cases registered for Foeticide (including female foeticide) during 2014-2016 as per the information received from the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB), are enclosed at Annexure.
(c): The Government of India has enacted a comprehensive legislation, the Pre-conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) (PC&PNDT) Act in 1994, for prohibition of sex selection, before and after conception and for regulation of prenatal diagnostic techniques. The Act, inter alia, provides for:-
(i) prohibition of the misuse of pre-natal diagnostic techniques for determination of sex of foetus, leading to female foeticide;
(ii) prohibition of advertisement of pre-natal diagnostic techniques for detection or determination of sex;
(iii) permission and regulation of the use of pre-natal diagnostic techniques for the purpose of detection of specific genetic abnormalities or disorders;
(iv) permitting the use of such techniques only under certain conditions by the registered institutions; and
(v) punishment for violation of the provisions of the legislation
