Question : Train Maintenance

(a) whether it is a fact that the Railways have been running empty trains while taking them for maintenance to the junctions resulting into financial loss and if so, the details thereof:
(b) the number of long distance trains, originating from small stations without any maintenance facilities which are hauled at major junctions for maintenance works, zone-wise; and
(c) whether the Railways proposes to run trains with passengers upto the nearby junction while taking them for haulage/ maintenance and if so, the details thereof?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (c) OF UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 3233 BY SHRI CH. MALLA REDDY AND SHRI P.R. SUNDARAM TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 10.08.2015 REGARDING TRAIN MAINTENANCE.
(a) to (c) Indian Railways consistently endeavours to originate trains from stations having necessary infrastructure like maintenance facilities, stabling line, terminals of requisite length/height, etc. However, operational exigencies and need for optimizing utilisation of resources, at times, necessitate empty haulage of rakes from terminating stations to nearby stations having requisite maintenance facilities. The number of Express trains presently being hauled empty for maintenance purposes are as under:
