(a) & (b) The production of cotton clothes in the country was 31718 Mn.Sq.mtr in 2010-11
and 30570 Mn.Sq.mtr in 2011-12 which increased to 34102 (prov.) Mn. Sq. mtr in 2012-13.
State-wise details are not available.
(c) Government has no information regarding use of cotton cloth by the different class of people.
The total production of cotton clothes in the country increased in 2012-13 from the previous
years and there is no shortage of cotton cloth reported. Cotton cloth is available in the
country to meet the demand from all categories of people including poor and middle class
people. However, Textile Committee has conducted survey `National Household Survey 2011
Market for Textiles and Clothing`. As per the survey per capita purchase and aggregate
purchase of cotton textile items showed an increase in 2010 compared to previous year.

(d) & (e) The decrease in the value of rupee has no adverse impact on import of textile items.
India is largely self-sufficient in respect of raw material like fibre, yarn and fabrics and
the quantum of import is not significant. The details of production & import of raw material
are given in Annexure-II.
(ii) The country-wise details of import of raw cotton is given in Annexure-III and that of
import of cotton yarn in Annexure-IV, man-made fibre in Annexure-V, man-made filament yarn
in Annexure-VI, and cotton fabrics are given in Annexure-VII.
(ii) In order to improve the performance of textile industry Government has taken various
measures / schemes like Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS), Schemes for Integrated
Textile Parks (SITP), scheme for the Development of powerloom sector.
