Question : Monitoring of Colleges

(a) whether the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) monitors the Colleges and Institutes under it to find out whether they comply with the rules laid down by it;
(b) if so, the number of such colleges and Institutes identified as violators of rules during the last three years along with the names thereof; and
(c) the action taken by the Government against such colleges?

(a): Yes, Madam. The All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) monitors the Colleges and Institutes approved by it. AICTE approved technical institutions not adhering to the norms and standards prescribed in AICTE Approval Process Handbook are liable for penal action, which includes suspension of approval for supernumerary seats, no admission status in respective courses for one academic year, withdrawal of approval in the respective course, reduction in seats intake, withdrawal of approval of the institution and even closure of the institution.
(b) to (c): The list of such technical Institutes against whom action has been taken during the last three years for violation of norms and standards prescribed in the AICTE Approval Process Handbook is at Annexure-I & II.
