Question : Appointment of Physiotherapists

a) the number of Physiotherapists employed in the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and its other allied offices and autonomous organisations at present;

b) the details of recruitment rules and procedure adopted to for Physiotherapists in these organisations;

c) whether these recruitment rules and procedure are being implemented uniformly for the said recruitment in these organisations;

d) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor; and

e) the details of the recommendations of 7th Central Pay Commission with regard to the Physiotherapists and the scale of pay given to them by the Ministry at the entry level?

(a) & (b): Physiotherapists are employed in Sports Authority of India (SAI) under their various sports promotional schemes. Out of a total of 10 sanctioned posts in SAI, 06 are filled on regular basis and remaining on contract basis. Physiotherapists are also recruited under the scheme of Assistance to National Sports Federations (NSFs) for National Camps on contract and need basis. The number may vary from time to time.

The following are the recruitment process for recruiting Physiotherapists in SAI under various schemes:

(i) For regular posts of physiotherapists in SAI:
Classification – Grade ‘B’; Scale of Pay – Pay level 6 in pay matrix {as per 7th Central Pay Commission(CPC)}; Age Limit – 30 years, relaxable upto 10 years in case of Departmental candidates; Educational and other qualification – Bachelor Degree in Physiotherapy (BPT) from recognized University; Probation Period – 2 years; Method of recruitment – Direct; Eligible candidates are selected by duly Selection Committee headed by Executive Director (Personnel), SAI.
(ii) Recruitment under the scheme of Assistance to National Sports Federations is done on contractual basis. Following are the eligibility criteria:-
GRADE I [Rs. 50,000/- or Rs. 1,500 per visit]
Master in Sports Physiotherapy (MSPT)/Master in Physiotherapy (ORTHO) + 8 Years of work experience in the relevant field
GRADE II [Rs. 40,000/- or Rs. 1,200 per visit]
Master in Sports Physiotherapy (MSPT)/Master in Physiotherapy (ORTHO) + 2 Years of work experience in the relevant field or Bachelor in Physiotherapy with minimum 5 years of experience in the relevant field.

(c) & (d): Recruitment is carried out in SAI for regular as well as contractual posts according to the laid down norms as mentioned in reply part (b) above. Posts are advertised in National Dailies and SAI’s website. Skill test is conducted by experts and interview by a duly constituted board.

(e): As per 7th CPC, the entry grade scale of physiotherapists in SAI is pay matrix level 6 (Rs. 4200/- Grade Pay).
