(a) whether the Government of Gujarat has requested for shifting of Railway Headquarters
from Mumbai to Ahmedabad in view of huge contribution to Western Railway from Gujarat;
(b) if so, the action taken thereon; and
(c) the reasons for not accepting said request so far?

(a): Yes, Madam.
(b) & (c): The location of the Headquarters of a Railway depends on operational and administrative
requirements, consistent with the needs of economy & efficiency. The proposal to shift the Western
Railway’s headquarters from Mumbai to Ahmedabad was examined in the light of the above and has not
been considered feasible.
