(a) whether the Government have decided to purchase paddy and rice from the growers in
Andaman and Nicobar Islands;
(b) if so, the quantity of rice and paddy that has been procured till now during the
current year; and
(c) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a),(b)&(c): FCI has not found it feasible to take up procurement of paddy and rice in
Andaman & Nicobar Islands due to a number of constraints/limitations. However, the A&N
Administration has been asked to examine the possibility of taking up the procurement of
paddy/rice under Decentalized Procurement Scheme under which financial support is provided by
the Central Government.
