Question : ANTI MYANMAR REBELS ASYLUM IN INDIA



(a) whether the Anti-Myanmar Armed Rebels have sought asylum in Mizoram and Manipur after crossing the Indo-Myanmar border;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Myanmar Army has ever entered into Indian Territory following the hot pursuits of these rebels during the last three years and thereafter till date; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a)&(b): The Myanmar Army officials have raised the issue of presence of anti-Myanmar insurgents in Mizoram. On receipt of information, Assam Rifles deployed on border guarding duties on Indo-Myanmar border takes action against such armed anti-Myanmar insurgents. Government of Mizoram has also been suitably advised in the matter. On 10th December 2004, a group of anti-Myanmar insurgents after raiding a Myanmar Police Post had entered Indian territory through Mizoram. The Assam Rifles challenged them and in the encounter one personnel of Assam Rifles and three insurgents were killed.

(c)&(d): Two instances of intrusion into Indian territory in Mizoram by Myanmar Army took place in December 2004.
