Question : CENTRE FOR CORPORATE EXCELLENCE

to the reply given to Unstarred Question No.1048 dated March 1, 2001 and state:

(a) whether the Government propose to set up Academic institutions called `Centre for Corporate Excellence`;

(b) if so, the details thereof, State-wise;

(c) whether the Government have received some representations to locate such centres in States where major industries and technological institutes are existing; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and the steps taken in this direction?

(a) to (d): One of the important recommendations made in its report by the Study Group on Corporate Excellence, set up by the Government, relates to setting up an independent, autonomous Centre for Corporate Excellence to mainly accord accreditation and promote policy research and studies, training & education and awards etc. in the field of corporate excellence through improved corporate governance. The exact location of such institute has not vet been decided by the Government even though some representations have been received from the State Governments.
