Question : AID TO NGO(S)



(a) whether his Ministry allocates grant-in-aid to NGOs for promoting road safety awareness programmes in different States ;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether Government of Meghalaya has forwarded a proposal recommending allocation of fund to the tune of Rs.5,20,000/- to Voluntary Health Association of Meghalaya, Shillong for administering road safety programmes in the State of Meghalaya, if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether any representation have been received in this regard, if so the details thereof; and

(e) the action taken/ proposed to be taken by the Government in this regard ?

THE MINISTER OF STATE OF THE MINISTRY OF ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS (MAJOR GENERAL (RETD.) B.C. KHANDURI)

(a) : Yes, Sir.

(b) : 79 NGOs have been selected by the Ministry for grants-in-aid amounting to approximately Rs. 1 crore during the current financial year.

(c) : Yes, Sir. This Ministry had received a proposal from M/s Voluntary Health Association, Shillong, Meghalaya for grants-in-aid for Road Safety Programmes on 28.2.2002.

(d) &(e): Yes, Sir. `The proposal of the said NGO was not considered as it was incomplete and also not in accordance with the guidelines of the scheme.
