Question : Employee Welfare Scheme in Kendriya Vidyalayas

(a) whether the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) collect part of salary of
employees under the Employee Welfare Scheme (EWS);
(b) if so, the details of rules governing EWS, money collected, utilised, unutilised,
assistance provided to employees in case of death, medical treatment during the
last three years;
(c) whether the employees of KVS are facing problems due to lack of amenities/
facilities;
(d) if so, the details thereof including shortage of quarters, creche facility, CGHS
facility, etc.; and
(e) the steps taken/being taken by Government for welfare of employees of KVs?

(a) & (b) The Employee Welfare Scheme (EWS) is being implemented in Kendriya Vidyalaya
Sangathan (KVS) with effect from April, 2002. The amount of monthly subscription and
amount of welfare cover, in case of death of an employee under the scheme, is as under:-

This fund is utilised for payment of interest along with its own share to the subscriber on
retirement at the rate as defined in Central Government Employees Group Insurance
Scheme 1980. The unutilised money is invested in Government Bonds/Fixed Deposit with
Nationalised Banks. No assistance for medical treatment is provided under the scheme. The
assistance provided to employees in case of death of employee during last three years is as
follows:-

(c) to (e) No, Madam. Facilities such as staff quarters, CGHS / Medical etc. have been
extended to the employees of KVS. Employees have been allowed to draw House Rent
Allowance where staff quarters are not available or residing in their own houses. Necessary
instructions have been issued for setting up of the crèche facility in all the establishments of
KVS, where the number of employees is fifty or more.
