Question : DEVELOPMENT OF BACKWARD AREAS



(a) the number of proposals sent to the Union Government by Maharashtra and other State Governments for the development of tribal, rural, hilly and backward areas of these States during the last three years;

(b) if so, the State-wise details of proposals particularly with regard to tribal areas;

(c) whether the Union Government has cleared or considering to clear these proposals; and

(d) if so, the amount earmarked therefor separately by the Government?

(a) to (d): Financial Assistance is provided to the States including Maharashtra, under various Central Sector and Centrally Sponsored Schemes for the development of tribal, hilly, backward and rural areas being implemented by the Ministries of Rural Development, Tribal Affairs, Social Justice & Empowerment, Health and Family Welfare, Agriculture, Water Resources, Department of Education etc. Some of the major Schemes/ Programmes being implemented are: Swarnajayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY), Prime Minister Gramodaya Yojana (PMGY), Pradhana Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), Indira Awas Yojana (IAY), Samagra Gram Rozgar Yojana (SGRY), National Food for Work Programme, Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme (ARWSP), Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP), Tribal Sub-Plan, Grant-in-Aid under Article 275(1), Special Central Assistance to Tribal Sub-Plan, Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Scheme, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Rashtriya Sam Vikas Yojana, Border Area Development Programme, Hill Area Development Programme, Western Ghat Development Programme etc. Under these Schemes/ Programmes proposals are received from State Governments including Maharashtra and are considered by the concerned Ministries and Departments and funds provided accordingly.
