Question : Merger of SSB and ITBP

(a) whether the Government is considering to merge Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) with Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether the Government has held any consultation with SSB and ITBP in this regard;

(c) if so, whether the Government has sought suggestion from both the forces regarding reconstruction of the forces afresh;

(d) if so, the details thereof and the response of the Government in this regard; and

(e) the steps taken/being taken by the Government to provide latest and advanced weapons to the SSB and ITBP?

(a) to (d): --An idea was mooted for considering the possibilities of merger of ITBP and SSB and informal consultations were held in this regard. However, no such proposal is under consideration, at present.

(e):Modernization of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) is a continuous process. SSB and ITBP have been allocated adequate funds to equip them with latest and advanced weapons.

Apart from above, the Government has approved a Modernization Plan -III for all CAPFs (including SSB and ITBP) for equipping CAPFs with latest and advanced weapons.
