Question : Hostels for Minority Students

(a) whether the Government proposes to accord priority to minority students specially girls in providing
hostel facilities in various States including Madhya Pradesh;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the number of hostels in various States including Madhya Pradesh and the number of hostels for the girl
students, State-wise;

(d) the number of estimated additional requirement of such hostels in the country in view of the demand of
such hostels; and

(e) the details of such hostels available in the country including Madhya Pradesh for the students of the
Muslim community, State-wise?

(a) & (b): The Multi-sectoral Development Programme (MsDP), a Centrally Sponsored Scheme, is being
implemented by Ministry of Minority Affairs with an aim to provide Socio-economic infrastructure and
Basic amenities for uplifting the quality of life of Minorities. Creation of infrastructure for education
purpose including hostels is a priority under MsDP. However State Governments/UTs Administration
propose the projects as per their requirement and felt need for consideration under MsDP.

(c): The number of hostels including girls hostels in various States including Madhya Pradesh approved
under MsDP are at Annexure-I. In Madhya Pradesh 7 hostels for Girls Students have been approved
under MsDP.

(d). Construction of hostels are considered on the basis of the proposals received from States/UTs. At
present, no proposal for sanctioning of hostels as additional requirement is pending in Ministry.

(e). As per guidelines, running and maintenance of assets created under MsDP including Hostels is
responsibility of State Government/UT. Hostels are not approved for a particular community. However,
it is situated at a location which has substantial minority population so that maximum benefit goes to the
Minority communities including Muslims.
