Question : Water Re-Harvesting System in Government Buildings

(a) the percentage of buildings out of the Union Government''s buildings located at various places in the country having water recharge and water re-harvesting system at present;
(b) the scheme of the Government to equip the remaining buildings with this system; and
(c) whether there is any proposal to assist the said system through MPLADS funds in private societies expansion, if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (b) As per information received from Ministry of Urban Development, percentage of rain water harvesting system available in Union Government buildings is as below:
• Non-residential : 43.33 %
• Residential : 46.17 %
Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA) has also issued advisory to the States / UTs to take measures to promote / adopt rain water harvesting and artificial recharge to round water. 30 States / UTs have made rain water harvesting mandatory by enacting laws or by formulating rules & regulations or by including provisions in Building bye-laws or through suitable Government Orders.
(c) As per revised guidelines (June, 2016) on MPLADS issued by M/o Statistics & Programme Implementation, installation of rainwater harvesting systems (both for water storage and ground water recharging) in Government buildings and public places like schools, colleges, hospitals, community halls, water- bodies, etc. belonging to Central State and Local Self Government is permissible under the MPLADS.
