Question : Human Development Report of World Bank

(a)whether there are 10 to 14 crore child labourers in the country as per the Human Development Report of the World Bank;
(b)if so, whether the country accounts for the highest number of cases of violation of child rights;
(c)whether there is lack of proper and reliable data regarding children who comprise 40 per cent of the entire population and are helpless due to their social, economical and geopolitical conditions; and
(d)if so, the details thereof?

(a): The Ministry of Labour & Employment is not in receipt of any such report from World Bank in this regard.

(b): As per “Crème in India, 2020” a publication of National Crime Records Bureau, 464, 772 and 476 number of cases were registered during calendar year 2018, 2019 and 2020 respectively under Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986 in the country.

(c) & (d): The Indian Census conducted by Registrar General of India contains statistical information on different characteristics of the people of India, which also include children. This census is a decennial census, and last census is of 2011.
