Question : Rehabilitation of People

(a) Whether any funds have been provided for the rehabilitation of people living in unsafe areas of coal mines in various States in the country particularly in Madhya Pradesh during the last three years and the current year;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the year-wise and the State-wise number of families rehabilitated?

(a)&(b): In the approved Master Plan for Jharia and Raniganj Coalfields dealing with fire, subsidence and rehabilitation and diversion of surface infrastructure within the leasehold areas of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) in Jharia coalfields and Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) Raniganj coalfields on 12th August, 2009, provision has been made for the rehabilitation of the people living in unsafe area of coal mines in Jharkhand and West Bengal.

Under this Plan in West Bengal, Coal India Ltd. has released a total fund of Rs.159.71 crores for acquisition of land and Rs.93.214 lakhs for Demographic Survey through Asansol Durgapur Development Authority (ADDA) - the implementing authority of Government of West Bengal.

In Jharkhand total fund released for the rehabilitation of the affected people living in unsafe areas of coal mines during the last three years and the current year is Rs. 519.06 crores.

No such contingency has arisen in Madhya Pradesh and hence, there is no such plan in that State.
