Question : Increase in MPLAD Fund

(a) the time when the Member of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) fund was increased to Rs. 5 crore;

(b) whether the Government has received any representation to increase annual allocation of MPLADs fund; and

(c) if so, the details thereof and the action taken thereon?

MINISTER OF STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) FOR MINISTRY OF STATISTICS AND PROGRAMME IMPLEMENTATION, MINISTER OF STATE FOR MINISTRY OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS AND MINISTER OF STATE FOR MINISTRY OF OVERSEAS INDIAN AFFAIRS [GENERAL (Dr.) V.K. SINGH (Retd.)]

(a): The annual allocation of funds under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) was enhanced from rupees 2 crore to rupees 5 crore per Member of Parliament with effect from the financial year 2011-12.

(b): Yes, Madam.

(c): The Lok Sabha Committee on MPLADS (Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme) in its sitting held on 02.07.2013 had recommended to increase the annual allocation per Member of Parliament from rupees 5 crore to rupees 10 crore.

Hon’ble Deputy Speaker Lok Sabha (16th Lok Sabha) and Chairman, Lok Sabha Committee on MPLADS vide letter dated 25.02.2015 had requested for increase of annual allocation of MPLADS funds per Member of Parliament to Rs. 25 crore.

The matter was referred to Ministry of Finance.
