Question : WELFARE OF CHILDREN OF BACKWARD COMMUNITY



(a) whether the Government has chalked out any specific programmes for the welfare of children belonging to backward communities;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the budgetary allocation made therein during each of the last three years and the current year, State-wise?

(a) & (b): The Government through the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is implementing the following schemes for the welfare of students belonging to Other backward Classes (OBCs):

(i) Pre-matric scholarship.

(ii) Post-matric scholarship.

(iii) Construction of hostels for OBC boys and girls.

(iv) Assistance to voluntary organizations working for the welfare of OBCs.

(c): Details of budgetary allocation under these schemes during 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13 are given at Annex-I.

State-wise expenditure details under pre-matric scholarship, post-matric scholarship, construction of hostels for OBC boys and girls and assistance to voluntary organizations working for the welfare of OBCs are given at Annex-II, III, IV and V respectively.
