Question : Effect of Cyclone Fani on Fishermen

(a) whether the Government has conducted any survey on the coastal belt of Odisha that was severely affected by the recent cyclone Fani regarding the extent of damage caused to the fishermen and their fishing equipment;
(b) if so, the details of the damage caused; and
(c) the manner in which the Government proposes to rehabilitate the fishermen who lost everything in the cyclone, at the earliest and the time by which they will be rehabilitated?

(a) & (b).As per the details received from the Government of Odisha, detailed survey was conducted by them on the loss and damage caused to the fishermen and their fishing equipmentdue to extremely sever Cyclonic Storm ‘Fani’in the coastal belt of Odisha.As for as fisheries sector is concerned, 2957 boats and 4163 nets have been fully damaged and 3459 boats and 4665 nets have been partially damaged in 10 Districts of Odisha.
(c).The Government of Odisha has reported that 11,244 nos. of fishermen have been affected in ‘Fani’ in Puri, Khordha, Cuttack and Ganjam districts and an amount of Rs.6,13,70,628/- has been sanctioned as relief assistance as per State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF)/ National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF)norms. Out of which an amount of Rs.5,92,11,120/- has been distributed to 10,513 fishermen till date.
Further the State Governments are required to suitably address/undertake all necessary measures for rehabilitation and allocate sufficient funds under their ongoing schemes/programs.
