Question : WINDING UP OF REGIONAL OFFICE OF CIL



(a) whether the Government propose to wind up the regional offices of Coal Controller of Coal India Limited;

(b) if so, the reasons therefor; and

(c) the manner in which the distribution of coal is proposed to be regulated?

(a) & (b): Field offices of the Coal Controller’s Organisation set up for sampling and analysing of Coal by deploying Coal India Limited’s staff have been closed in March, 2001. The Principal office of Coal Controller at Kolkata and its branch office at Dhanbad are still functioning.

(c) : The distribution of coal has been deregulated w.e.f.1.1.2000. Hence, the coal producing companies are distributing/selling coal as per their own policy keeping in view the demand and availability of particular grade of coal.
