Question : Pre-Natal Foetus Sex Determination

Will the Minister of WOMEN AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Indian Medical Association has urged the Government to make pre-natal sex determination compulsory to track female foeticide;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reaction of the Government thereto;

(c) whether the Government has consulted the various stakeholders and reviewed Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, 1994 before finalization of the proposal and if so the details thereof; and

(d) the time by which the final decision is likely to be taken in this regard?

(a) to (d) No Madam. There is no proposal under consideration of the Government to make pre-natal sex determination compulsory under the PC & PNDT Act, 1994 and Rules thereunder.
