Question : Solar Energy Generation by DMRC

Will the Minister of URBAN DEVELOPMENT be pleased to state:

(a) the details of total energy consumption of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) along with expenditure thereon;

(b) whether the DMRC proposes to generate 20 MW of solar energy from the rooftops of its stations and office buildings;

(c) if so, the details thereof and the expenditure likely to be incurred for the purpose;

(d) the time by which it is likely to be made operational; and

(e) the details of steps taken to generate solar power energy in other Metro Rails which are running in various parts of the country?

(a): The details of total energy consumption of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (DMRC) and expenditure incurred thereon during the last three years as received from DMRC are as under:

(b)to(d): Yes, Sir. DMRC has informed that they have planned to install solar Photo Voltaic (PV) power plants of 20 Mega Watt power (MWp) capacity by 2017 on the rooftops of its stations, depots and office buildings under Renewable Energy Service Companies (RESCO) model through open competitive bidding. In this model, the developer invests the entire cost of solar plant and DMRC pay for the energy generated at a tariff as agreed mutually in the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). Out of this, 6.3 MWp solar plant capacity has been installed and made operational till date.

(e): Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (JMRC) has informed that they have installed a 100 KWp roof mounted solar power plant at its Mansarovar Depot and it is under operation since 18.12.2015. Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has informed that they have awarded the work for installation of 1 MW solar energy on the rooftop. Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL), Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and Mumbai Metro One Pvt. Ltd. (MMoPL) have informed that they have planned to generate solar power energy through rooftop solar system.
