Question : Excavations in Keeladi- Tamil Nadu

(a) whether the Government is considering the demands of the people of Tamil Nadu to declare the “Keeladi” site in the State a ‘Protected Monument’ and set up an “International Museum” to display the exhibits as the Tamil Nadu Archaeology Department has come out with findings that bore the testimony to the early ‘Sangam Age’ of urban civilization of Tamils; and

(b) whether the Government has taken steps to expand the excavation at Keeladi to bring to fore the Archaeological richness of the site, which will bring the true history belonging to the people of Tamil Nadu and if so, the details thereof?

(a) There is no such proposal at present under consideration. However, State Government of Tamil Nadu is setting up a museum near Keeladi.

(b) Yes, Sir. The State Government has already initiated steps and they are continuing with the excavation.
