(a): As per the standards prescribed by International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), the statutory facilities for Customs, Immigration, Public Health and Agricultural Quarantine are necessary for international airports. Besides, other infrastructural facilities such as availability of Ground Lighting Facilities, Instrument Landing System for operation of aircraft at night, adequate runway length to cater to medium capacity long range aircraft or equivalent type of aircraft, etc. are also required. Presently, no proposal regarding declaration of Surat Airport as an International Airport is pending in Ministry of Civil Aviation. However, Surat Airport has been notified as authorized Customs and Immigration Check Post to cater limited international flight operations. Airports Authority of India (AAI) has also undertaken work of extension and modification of the existing terminal building to handle 1200 Domestic + 600 International passengers.;
(b): Government of India vide letter dated 29.01.2018 has requested the State Government of Gujarat to resolve issues related to Surat Airport viz. immediate land requirement for expansion of existing runway 04/22, ultimate land requirement, removal of obstacles, Color Coded Zoning Map etc. Further, the above issues were also discussed in the meeting convened by Government of Gujarat on 23.03.2018.;
(c): The AAI has allocated a sum of Rs.1.05 crores for the year 2018-19 and Rs.13.40 crores for the year 2019-20 for the development/ upgradation of Surat Airport.
