(a) the details and quantum of good quality seeds, seeds minikits and improved
implements provided by the Union Government under Accelerated Maize Development
Programme (AMDP) in all maize potential districts in the country during each of the last
three years;
(b) the extent of increase in production of maize as a result thereof during the said
period; and
(c) the concrete steps taken/proposed to be taken for better implementation of the
AMDP?

(a): Under Accelerated Maize Development Programme (AMDP), good quality seeds,
seed minikits and improved implements are not provided by the Union Government to the
Districts/States. However, financial assistance is provided for seed minikit demonstrations
{@ Rs. 50/- per kit of 2 Kg seed of High Yielding Varieties (HYV`s) and @ Rs. 60/- per kit
of 2 Kg. of hybrid seeds}, incentives for use of certified seed of HYVs/Hybrids for
encouraging varietal replacement, propagation of location specific high-yielding germplasm
by farmers at the rate of Rs. 400/- per quintal and incentives for the use of Bullock
Drawn/manually operated/power operated agricultural implements, specifically used for
maize crop, for timely and effective field operations at the rate of 50% of the cost, limited to
Rs. 1500/- per implement per farmer for seed-cum-fertilizer drill-bullock drawn, maize
planter-bullock drawn and maize sheller-manually operated. For maize sheller (power
operated), assistance at the rate of 25% of cost, limited to Rs. 5000/- per unit per farmer is
also provided under AMDP. The allocations for above purposes are made to the States
having potential for maize production for implementation of the programme in all the maize
potential districts in the states. No allocations are made for district at GOI level and hence
the district-wise data are not maintained at GOI level. The State-wise details of physical
and financial allocations made by GOI and physical and financial expenditure reported by
the State Governments for distribution of good quality seeds, seed minikits and improved
implements under AMDP for the last three year have been provided at Annexure-I, II & III.
(b): The production of maize in the country has increased from 111.50 lakhs tonnes
(1998-99) to 118.40 lakhs tonnes (2000-2001). The relevant details may be summarized
as under;
