Question : SETTING UP OF INDIAN AYURVEDA INSTITUTE



(a) whether the Government has accorded approval for setting up of Indian Ayurveda Institute on the lines of All India Institute of Medical Sciences as reported in ‘Dainik Jagran’ dated January 25, 2008;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the time by which such institutes are likely to be functional; and

(d) the number of patients likely to be treated daily in the institutes?

(a) & (b) The Government has approved the establishment of All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) at Sarita Vihar, New Delhi as a Centre of Excellence focused on fundamental research, drug safety evaluation, standardization, quality control and scientific validation of Ayurvedic medicine. The institute would also offer in post-graduate and doctoral courses in the aforesaid disciplines. It will have a 200 bed research and referral hospital for facilitating clinical research.

(c) The All India Institute of Ayurveda would be fully functional by the end of XI Five Year Plan, i.e. by March, 2012.

(d) When fully functional, the Institute will treat about 250-300 O.P.D. patients daily in addition to IPD patients initially.
