Question : INCREASE IN MPLAD FUNDS



(a) whether the Government has received any representation to increase annual allocation of MPLADS fund;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the action taken thereon;

(c) whether the Government is aware of the fact that various State Governments have given higher amount of fund for their legislative members; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a): Yes, Sir.

(b): The Lok Sabha Committee on MPLADS (Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme) in its sitting held on 02.07.2013 had recommended to increase the annual allocation per Member of Parliament from rupees 5 crore to rupees 10 crore.

Honble Deputy Speaker Lok Sabha (16th Lok Sabha) and Chairman, Lok Sabha Committee on MPLADS vide letter dated 25.02.2015 have requested for increase of annual allocation of MPLADS funds per Member of Parliament to Rs.25 crore.

The matter is under examination in consultation with Ministry of Finance.

(c) & (d): Schemes concerning Members of Legislatures in the States are administered by the respective State Governments as per their respective policies. Data on funds allocation to Members of Legislatures by the State Governments is not centrally maintained.
