Question : Waiting Period for Surgery in AIIMS

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government has formulated/proposes to formulate any scheme to end the problem of long waiting period for surgery of patients along with managing the increasing number of patients in the country’s biggest All India Institute of Medical Sciences;

(b) if so, the time by which the said scheme is likely to be implemented along with the extent to which patients are likely to be benefited from the same; and

(c) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (c): The number of patients coming to AIIMS, New Delhi for treatment/ surgery is more than the beds available in the Institute. However, the waiting list of patients needing admission are prepared according to patients’ condition, urgency of treatment and bed availability on the particular day. To cater to the increasing demand, new facilities/ blocks such as Surgical Blocks, National Cancer Institute, Jhajjar, Mother & Child Block, New Private Ward, Burn & Plastic Surgery, Geriatrics Block & New OPD Block had been approved at AIIMS, New Delhi.
