Question : Indian Bridge Management System

(a) whether the Government has recently launched the Indian Bridge Management System (IBMS);

(b) if so, the salient features thereof;

(c) the manner in which it will work;

(d) the number of bridges likely to cover under this system; and

(e) the extent to which this system will be effective to check the actual condition of the bridges and avoid collapses?

(a) to (d) Yes Madam. Government has launched Indian Bridge Management System (IBMS) for carrying out inventory and condition survey of all the existing bridges on National Highways for deciding the Rehabilitation requirement.

(e) The effectiveness of the system is based on the condition survey reports obtained through IBMS system.
